Crossing Continents With M.I.A

Announcing her new album would be released before the end of 2015, the controversial star shared her new video “Matahdatah Scroll 01 ‘Broader Than A Border‘“ via Apple Music. The first debut as a director came from the album ‘Matangi’ to the song ‘Warriors’ and the multi-disciplinary artist has since decided to create a concept video series. Explaining how the simultaneous creation process of the songs and videos helped expand her boundaries, M.I.A used songs ‘Swords’ and ‘Warriors’ from her new album.

Consisting of two parts the video “Matahdatah Scroll 01 ‘Broader Than A Border‘“ starts with female warriors sword dancing in a temple in India. M.I.A has also added a beat to the songs from the recordings of the swords’ clashing. The second part introduces us to an African dancer M.I.A has spotted online and went on to film him at the Ivory Coast. The dancer is actually a spiritual warrior communicating through is movements and he closes the video with an exclusive performance for the video.

M.I.A a.k.a Ms Matangi expands boundaries in the video with a concept editing using vertical and horizontal transitions along with colliding, natural footage. This enables her to move between various disciplines more freely and creatively. Can’t wait for the rest of the series.
