The independent photography collective Nar Photos is an agency focused on themes of equality, democracy, and freedom and has brought together endeavors of varying perspectives from all over Turkey since 2003. Nar’s goal is to shatter the bias of usual world event portrayals to bring forth more simple and personal truths through photography; to always question what is presented to the public as information.
The ‘Yolda’ (On the Road) exhibition at Istanbul Modern’s photography gallery offers a view into events of historical value from the recent Turkish past or events whose effects are still felt today. In cooperation with Nar Photos, the 75 photographs and six videos divulge life stories mostly kept in the shadows and allows for an empathetic viewer experience. The works challenge accepted truths, which are broken down through the mode of personal stories that encourage collective intelligence harboring positive change.
